Q: Can I send questions to you in Swedish?
A: Yes, you can write to me in either Swedish or English. I also read Danish and German.
Q: Can I write my assignments in Swedish?
A: Yes, you can write in either Swedish or English, but please do not mix the two languages.
Q: Is the tenta going to be in Swedish?
A: Yes. If requested, an English version may also be available. You may answer the questions in
either Swedish or English.
Q: I have extreme problems with Blocks 1 & 2 as my arithmetic skills from 'gymnasiet'
are old and rusty. What
shall I do?
A: It is essential to be able to do basic arithmetic with numbers and letters, e.g. handle signs
and multiply brackets,
arithmetic with fractions, roots and powers. If you find this hard, you can go back to your
Matematik
A-book from 'gymnasiet' and revise the relevant sections before reading the chapters in [D].
Alternatively have a look at the online revision resources of pre-university
mathematics which I have collected, there are both revision notes, self-tests and online
tutorials available. If you need substantial time for such revision, it might be a good idea to
do this over a longer period of time than one week, so if you get stuck on Blocks 1 & 2 go
to Blocks 3 soon and spread Blocks 1 & 2
over 3 weeks. You can do this because Block 3 is largely independent on the two previous blocks.
Q: Is it compulsory to attend the course meetings?
A: No, but it is strongly advisable.
Q: Some parts of your HTML-pages look strange on my screen. There are weird symbols and question marks appearing in places
where the PDF-files have normal mathematical notation. Some pages won't even open. Why is this? What am I doing wrong?
A: You are probably not doing anything wrong. Such problems may be down to the browser you are using. I recommend using Mozilla's Firefox browser
to view my webpages as generally this browser works well on all platforms. However, one exception are the tests in the pre-university
revision pages, they need MS Internet Explorer to work.
Q: The first course meeting is not on the first day of term. When does the course start?
A: The course starts on the first day of the first week of term. The course is a distance course
and you are supposed to do all the reading and solve all the exercises at home in your own
time. You can find recommended
to-do-lists on the course resources page for each week of term, I recommend that you follow these.
